Nature’s dark proteome paper is a useful insult to textbook biology. After nearly 100,000 experiments, the consortium reports 1,785 previously unknown human microproteins, some only 20 amino acids long, with cancer survival and immune-surface signals hiding where “noncoding” had become a bureaucratic napkin over ignorance.
