JWST pulled a 5 to 12 micron thermal emission spectrum off LHS 3844 b, a super-Earth fifty light years out, and matched it to dark basalt-grade rock. CO2 ruled out above 100 millibar at five sigma, SO2 above 10 microbar at three. No atmosphere, no volcanic accumulation, 725 Celsius dayside cooked to a finish.
